Levi

Levi is out of a litter sired by Red. He belongs to Darren Vaughn and is a handful at 5 months. He loves water especially when there is something to retrieve, like a quail killed during training. We've just now started working him on blinds. Levi will be finding dove for his owner in September and ducks in November. His training will continue on after hunting season. Here I've dropped a quail, that he had been retrieving and was now waterlogged, into the duckweed in about 1 foot of water. In the first photo he smells it and the second he is underwater after it. We kill a lot of wood ducks and they are notorious for going under and holding onto roots when pursued by a dog. This teaches the pup to believe in his nose.

07-08 Hunts

Magnun the Lewellyn Setter

While we raise and train pointing labs we are always appreciative of a any bird dog that has that little something that sets them apart from the rest of the pack. We saw this in Mag as a puppy and purchased him to run as part of our crew. He has not disappointed. Mag is a big running dog that can really cover a field, and he will point every bird along the way.

Toby

Black Tobias Highlander aka Toby came to us from owners who got him as a six week old puppy from Brian Kalich in Tomball, Texas. We had bred Red to his female, Gypsy Flash Kalich, who is the granddaughter of Bodacious Bo Denson, who is the black pointing lab that we guided with on the Chocolate Bay Rod and Gun Club. Toby looks and acts a lot like Bo. The owners of Toby could no longer put up with his destructive ways and returned him with papers to Brian in October of 07 and we took possession of him November of 07. This picture was taken in May of 08. Toby not only points but will flush and retrieve the bird after it is shot. At the present time Toby is working on his remote sit to whistle and handling to the downed bird. I have no doubt that he will be a welcomed addition to our hunting team. It just shows you what can be done with a lot of love and a little patience. I hope his previous owners read this blog and will be happy knowing that Toby will reach his full potential and will bring elation to a lot of hunters.

Ed

Ed is a Pointer that came from Top Flight game birds. We got him at 8 months and now half way through his training we can tell he will make someone a good hunting dog. He is not a big running dog preferring to work out to about 50 yards. He is steady to point and will retrieve the bird to hand. Price of Ed is $1500.00. A deposit of $500.00 will hold him until 07/15/08.

Red and Nikki

Red and Nikki grazing in the blackberries. We were trying to pick some for a cobler and jam and the dogs decided they would help. Red would stick his nose deep into the briars and get the juciest berries. The preserve is full of berries this time of year. Not only do we like berries but so do the birds so we encourage their growth.
